ASX Code: PLD
10 September 2013
Rocky Gully Nickel Copper Project Exploration Commences
-
PLD commences exploration at the Rocky Gully Ni-Cu Project which covers a total area of ~1,200km[2] in the Albany Fraser Belt, WA.
-
The Albany Fraser Belt is considered analogous to the prolific Thompson and Cape Smith Belts in Canada, being host to large tonnage, high grade and low cost Ni-Cu deposits.
-
The Rocky Gully Ni-Cu project early stage characteristics demonstrate similarities to the early stage characteristics of the recent Nova-Bollinger Ni-Cu discovery.
-
Exploration will include geological and geophysical data compilation, further geophysical surveys and geochemical sampling, as well as Aircore and RC drilling.
-
Results will be released as they become available.
PLD Corporation Limited ( ASX:PLD ) (“ PLD ” or “ the Company ”) is pleased to announce that it has commenced exploration at the Rocky Gully Ni-Cu Project which covers a total area of ~1,200km[2] located in the Albany Fraser Belt, Western Australia (Figure 1).
Exploration including geological and geophysical data compilation is underway which will prioritise areas of interest and targets within the 1,200km[2] of tenements. This will be followed by further geophysical surveys and geochemical sampling as well as Aircore and RC drilling to follow up prioritised targets with a view to confirming and extending Nickel Copper Sulphide mineralisation at Rocky Gully (Table 1).
The Company recently entered into two (2) binding Option Agreements for an exclusive 12 month period to acquire the Rocky Gully Ni-Cu Project where the Company will pay a total of $280,000 to exercise the Option for a minimum 90% of the Rocky Gully Project.
The Albany Fraser Belt, WA, is considered analogous to the prolific Thompson and Cape Smith Belt in Canada being host to large tonnage, high grade, low operating cost and capital efficient Nickel-Copper deposits. The analogy has recently been demonstrated by the discovery of Sirius Resources Limited (ASX:SIR) Nova-Bollinger Nickel-Copper Deposit, WA, within the same Belt.
The Rocky Gully Project includes four (4) contiguous tenements in the western portion of the Albany Fraser Belt (Figure 2). The projects are underlain by the Proterozoic rocks of the Birunup Gneiss. Late stage mafic to ultramafic intrusions have been identified in the area, which are favourable hosts for Ni-Cu sulphide mineralisation. Previous work has defined a number of coincident nickel and copper anomalies, while previous drilling has reportedly identified primary Ni-Cu sulphide mineralisation. These early stage characteristics demonstrate similarities to the early stage characteristics of the Nova-Bollinger Ni-Cu discovery (Table 2).
For further information regarding the Albany Fraser Belt and Rocky Gully Project please refer to the Company’s ASX announcement dated 19[th] August 2013.
