George Bennett, Chairman of APA Group, announced today that he would step down as a Director and Chairman of the Australian Pipeline Limited (APL) Board at the conclusion of the APL Annual General Meeting on 30 October 2007. APL is the responsible entity of the listed stapled APA Group. Mr Bennett has been Chairman of APL since Australian Pipeline Trust floated in June 2000.
Commenting about his decision, Mr Bennett said he felt the time had come for him to retire.
“It has been a privilege to serve as Chairman of APA Group. I leave knowing that the Board, staff and securityholders, have created a strong, vibrant and relevant business whose long term value is assured,” Mr Bennett said.
Mr Leonard Francis Bleasel AM was appointed to the APL board today as Chairman elect and will take over as Chairman at conclusion of the APA Group Annual Meeting.
“Len was Managing Director of The Australian Gas Light Company for eleven years and has held a number of senior directorships since his retirement in 2001.
“Len will bring significant industry, business knowledge and experience to the Board, at a time when APA Group is positioning itself as a “top 150” ASX business. I am sure that APA will have a long and prosperous future under his stewardship,” Mr Bennett said.
Mr Bleasel said he was delighted to accept his appointment to the APL Board and looks forward to the challenges that this position will provide.
