Despatch of CPS Postcard to ANZ Securityholders

Attached is a postcard being sent to certain holders of ANZ ordinary shares and ANZ stapled exchangeable preferred securities (ANZ StEPS) to notify them of the offer by ANZ of convertible preference shares (CPS) pursuant to a prospectus lodged with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission on 27 August 2008 (Offer).

The postcard is being sent to those holders of ANZ ordinary shares recorded on ANZ’s register at 5.00pm Melbourne time on Monday 18 August 2008 and those holders of ANZ StEPS recorded on ANZ’s register at 5.00pm Melbourne time on Thursday 31 July 2008 with registered addresses in Australia or New Zealand (ANZ Securityholders).

Pursuant to the Offer, ANZ Securityholders are entitled to participate in the ANZ Securityholder Offer. If there is excess demand for CPS under the Offer, priority will be given to applicants under the ANZ Securityholder Offer over applicants under the General Offer.
