ANZ appoints Asia Pacific Chief Risk Officer

ANZ today announced the appointment of Mr Nigel Denby to the role of Chief Risk Officer, Asia Pacific.

Mr Denby has more than 25 years of experience in banking across Asia, the Middle East and South America. Most recently, he was Regional Head for Risk Management and Credit for Nomura Asia. Prior to that he spent a large part of his career with HSBC where he held a series of senior roles in both risk management and in the Corporate, Investment Banking and Markets Division.

Commenting on the appointment, ANZ Chief Executive Officer Asia Pacific, Mr Alex Thursby said: “Our Asia Pacific business has grown significantly in the past six months and having someone of Nigel’s calibre join the team at this time will ensure we continue to grow while closely managing risk.

“Nigel’s breadth of experience across geographies and market events will be a valuable asset to both the ANZ Risk leadership team and Asia Pacific leadership team.

“His specialist skills in market and credit risk management and meeting governance requirements across diverse regions will ensure ANZ’s interests in Asia Pacific are well-managed,” Mr Thursby said.

Based in Hong Kong, Mr Denby will report to ANZ Chief Risk Officer, Mr Chris Page and Mr Thursby. He commences with ANZ on 3 November 2008.
