DIAsource and Future Diagnostics receive grant of 1.4m Euro to develop a CE marked unique Free Vitamin D assay for the IVD market.

  • DIAsource and Future Diagnostics receive grant of 1.4m Euro from Eurostars (European Commission)

  • Grant supports demonstration clinical utility and obtaining CE marking of the world's first assay to measure Free Vitamin D

DIAsource Immunoassays SA, part of the Anteo Group (ASX: ADO), and Future Diagnostics Solutions (the Netherlands) are pleased to announce that their Eurostars project application for the development of a Free 25OH Vitamin D assay for use in the IVD market has been successful, and that the project will receive €1.4m (AUD2m) in funding. A research-use-only assay has been developed and manufactured by Future Diagnostics using the proprietary DIAsource monoclonal antibodies and DIAsource received the exclusive worldwide distribution rights. The project was chosen from 331 eligible applications, and was further approved for funding by the national funding bodies of the project consortium.

The goal of the project is to develop a CE marked IVD immunoassay for the quantification of Free Vitamin D (25OHD) to assist in the reliable monitoring of patient Vitamin D status. This new assay will enable an optimized treatment of patients suffering from Vitamin D insufficiency thereby improving quality of life and generating significant cost-savings for society.

Anteo Group CEO Dr Jef Vangenechten said, “We are excited that we can continue the work on establishing a sound scientific basis for the importance and clinical utility of Free Vitamin D. With this support we can obtain CE marking and commercialise this unique assay in the clinical diagnostic testing market."

DIAsource currently sells this world’s first assay to measure Free Vitamin D as a research-use-only assay to the research community. Numerous recent studies suggest that the use of this assay to measure the free fraction of 25OH Vitamin D can be diagnostically more relevant in certain conditions like pregnancy, chronic kidney disease, liver failure, bladder and pancreatic cancer than measuring the total 25OH Vitamin D (as all other Vitamin D assays do). This project will allow further studies to be undertaken to demonstrate conclusively the clinical utility of this assay, to seek CE marking for the assay and to establish a clear positioning for this new marker prior to launching it in the global IVD Vitamin D market.

Eurostars is a joint program between EUREKA and the European Commission, co-funded from the national budgets of 36 Eurostars Participating States and Partner Countries and by the European Union through Horizon 2020. In the 2014-2020 period, it has a total public budget of €1.14 billion. Eurostars supports international innovative projects led by research and development- performing small- and medium-sized enterprises (R&Dperforming SMEs). With its bottom-up approach, Eurostars supports the development of
