AMP appoints non-executive Director

AMP Limited Chairman Peter Mason today announced the appointment of Brian Clark as a non-executive Director, effective 1 January 2008.

He is currently a Director of Boral Limited, and was previously a Director of National Australia Bank Limited and various Vodafone Group PLC subsidiary and separately listed Boards.

Mr Clark spent ten years in a variety of senior executive roles at Vodafone internationally, most recently in a United Kingdom-based role as Group Human Resources Director. He was also Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone’s Australian business as well as CEO of the Asia Pacific region, based in Tokyo. He was a member of the company’s global Executive Committee throughout his tenure with the company.

Before joining Vodafone, Mr Clark spent three years as CEO of Telkom SA Ltd, the state-owned telephone company in South Africa, where he oversaw the partial privatisation of the company and a total re-engineering of its operations.

Mr Clark commenced his career at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria, South Africa, rising to the role of President and overseeing its change from a government institution into a commercially focused contract research business. During this time, he was the recipient of numerous scientific awards from a number of countries.

Mr Mason said Mr Clark brought extensive management experience to AMP, having led large-scale change management and transformation programs throughout his career.

“Brian also brings significant global experience and a strong understanding of new technologies to the role and we are delighted to have attracted such a high calibre candidate,” he said.

Mr Clark has degrees in physics and mathematics and a PhD, all from the University of Pretoria, and has completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.

Mr Mason also confirmed today that AMP’s recently appointed Chief Executive Officer, Craig Dunn, will join the Board effective from his start date of 1 January 2008.
