On January 10, 2017, American Equity Investment Life Holding Company (the "Company") issued a press release announcing the death of Harley A. Whitfield, Sr., a member of the Company's Board of Directors. A copy of the press release announcing Mr. Whitfield's death is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and is incorporated herein by reference.
