AUTO AFTERMARKET SPECIALIST LAUNCHES EMISSIONS BUSINESS

IN READINESS FOR CARBON TRADING

At its AGM today, Allomak Limited (ASX:AMA) launched a new business called Emission Services to give the group a stronger platform to meet the increasing interest in vehicle emissions in the lead up to the introduction of carbon trading.

Mr Rob Allan, Chief Executive of Allomak, said Emission Services would support the state of the art technology provided by Diesel Test Australia in providing government, industry and commercial operators with emission testing and data.

“We are excited about building the environmental services capability of the group, as we are mindful that vehicle emissions are a major factor in pollution and climate change domestically and internationally,” Mr Allan said.

“The opportunities globally are very exciting and we believe we will be ideally placed to export services.

“With the introduction of carbon trading, the importance of evaluating and offsetting emissions will become more critical, so Emission Services’ work in increasing the availability of testing and providing essential data will strengthen our position as an industry leader in the auto aftermarket.

“With the Australian Tax Office focus on compliance, we are also predicting greater use of the tests by heavy vehicle operators eager to claim their fuel rebates for two years without the impost of costly maintenance programs.”

Diesel Test Australia, an Allomak company who developed the testing services, is currently working with the Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation testing 375 vehicles to provide data on the impact of vehicles on air quality.

It tests transit vans through to prime movers using mobile technology that is unique in the Australasian market. Dyno Dynamics, another Allomak company, has invented a mobile tandem- drive truck dynamometer to assist Diesel Test with in-service testing for bus and truck operators.

Diesel Test Australia pioneered the testing of diesel, bio-diesel, natural gas, LPG and dual fuels. In partnership with the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority it has worked with most Sydney councils on their fleets plus NSW State Transit, Perth Transit, Australia Post, Linfox and TNT.

The company has been instrumental in the development of emission control strategies and developed the DT80 diesel test, the only one authorized by the Federal Government’s Diesel Fuel Tax Credit Scheme to give truck owners a two year fuel rebate.

Emission Services will focus on bringing these tests to broader markets, enabling Diesel Test Australia to focus on more R&D.

Dual LPG, a conversion business, and LP Gas 1 are also members of the Allomak group delivering services that benefit the environment and provide lower vehicle running costs.

As further evidence of Allomak’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, shareholders today endorsed Allomak assigning one per cent of its annual profit to charity and on-profit organizations. Half of this will match employee donations to charities of their choice.
