ALS Limited announces Board succession

ALS Limited (ASX: ALQ) today announces planned transitional changes to the ALS Board that will mark the retirement of independent non-executive director Charles Sartain and welcome the appointment of Nigel Garrard.

Mr. Sartain retires from the ALS Board after a period of 8 years, during which he chaired the Sustainability & Innovation Committee as well as being a member of the Audit & Risk Committee.

ALS Chair Bruce Phillips commented, “On behalf of the Board I sincerely thank Charlie for his commitment, energy and contribution to the ALS Board during his tenure. Charlie’s leadership of the Sustainability and Innovation Committee, which he chaired from its inception in 2016 and in which he provided strategic oversight that has assisted in the delivery of industry-leading safety and health performance by the Company, has been outstanding. In addition, his drive and passion to lead the Committee’s oversight of carbon neutral operations and credible future Net Zero targets for the Company cannot be understated.”

As part of the planned transition, Nigel Garrard joins the Board as an independent non-executive director following on from his role as an ALS Board Adviser which commenced in April 2023.

“I am also very pleased to welcome Nigel Garrard to the ALS Board. Nigel’s appointment is a critical component of our strategic succession and sees the continued evolution of the Board. His commercial acumen and extensive experience in working in and with global public companies will enhance and complement our current Board capabilities.”

Mr. Garrard will join the Board effective 7 June 2023 following Mr. Sartain’s retirement which is effective immediately. Mr. Garrard will fill a casual vacancy on the Board and will seek formal election to the Board at the Company’s forthcoming Annual General Meeting on 26 July 2023.

Nigel Garrard: Professional Background

Nigel Garrard is an experienced and successful former CEO and executive at ASX Listed Group and Divisional levels with a successful track record across the fast-moving consumer goods and industrial/manufacturing sectors. He has over 20 years’ experience as an ASX-listed CEO across three companies. In 2019, he retired as Managing Director and CEO of Orora Limited leading its demerger from Amcor, and the subsequent listing of Orora Limited on ASX in 2013. He was President of the Amcor Australasia and Packaging Distribution business group, Managing Director of Coca-Cola Amatil’s Food and Services Division, and Managing Director of SPC Ardmona.

Nigel brings broad international experience across listed, not-for-profit, government and private entities. He is currently a non-executive director of Ansell Limited, a non-executive director of CSR Ltd, Chairman of Flinders Port Holdings Pty. Ltd and Chairman of the McMahon Services advisory board.

He has significant international operations, manufacturing and supply chain management experience in North America, New Zealand and Asia across food services and processing, primary products and packaging as well as marketing. Nigel also has strong M&A experience in Australia and offshore including acquisitions, divestments, joint ventures, demergers and mergers.

Nigel was educated at the University of Adelaide and holds a Bachelor of Economics degree and is qualified Chartered Accountant.
