Alara Appoints Highly Experienced CFO

Alara Resources Limited (ASX: AUQ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr John Watkins as Chief Financial Officer to complement the Executive Management Team.

John is a highly credentialed and experienced mining industry executive who comes to Alara after an extensive search and has both commercial and geoscience qualifications as well as a resources industry career spanning more than 30 years.

In welcoming John to the management team, Alara’s Managing Director, Philip Hopkins said:

“John is a high calibre global mining Finance Executive and will be of significant value to Alara and myself as we progress development of our flagship Khnaiguiyah Zinc-Copper Project in Saudi Arabia to a construction and then operations phase in the short term.

John is a CPA, a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and FINSIA with 30+ years of international resource industry experience both at corporate level and operating mine sites.

John commenced in chartered accounting with Deloitte and has held senior roles with companies and joint ventures (A$100m to US$1b size) in mineral trading, mineral exploration, petroleum production, zinc/lead/silver mining and concentrate export, gold/silver mining/toll refining, nickel sulphide mining and concentrate export, and project development in Australia, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Canada, Mexico and Brazil.

John’s extensive experience covers all aspects of company strategy and direction as a board member and includes fund raising, company promotion, project management, mine management and operations, metal refining and offtake contracts, construction and capital reporting, financial reporting, treasury, currency/metal price hedging, human resources, supply chain, risk management and community/sustainability obligations.

John was most recently the onsite Commercial Director at Mirabela Nickel Ltd (ASX: MBN) based in Brazil. Previously, he was Executive Director/CFO at Kula Gold Limited (ASX: KGD) with an advanced stage gold development project in PNG; CFO (Vancouver and Mexico) with Endeavour Silver Corp (TSX: EDR, NYSE: EXK); and Commercial Manager with Barrick Gold (TSX: ABX, NYSE: ABX)/Placer Dome at the Porgera Gold Mine (PNG).
