AkzoNobel finalizes acquisition of LII Europe activities
AkzoNobel has completed the acquisition of the business and assets of the German-based company LII Europe. The acquired activities will be integrated into AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals. Financial details were not disclosed.
LII Europe operates a multi-client chlorine cluster on the Hoechst Industrial Park near Frankfurt. As well as its main chlorine activities, the company also runs a chlorinated hydrocarbon plant, along with calcium chloride and solid caustic facilities.
"We are pleased that we have been able to conclude the deal so quickly," said Rob Frohn, the AkzoNobel Board member responsible for Specialty Chemicals. "LII Europe's activities will strengthen the position of our Industrial Chemicals business, especially in the European caustic market, as well as extending our regional scope."
Added Werner Fuhrmann, General Manager of AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals: "Our ambition is to become the leading chlorine and caustic merchant in Europe, focusing in particular on the local production and supply of chlorine, and the regional supply of caustic lye and hydrochloric acid.
"This concept has been successful for many years at our existing chlorine production sites and the LII Europe activities fit perfectly into this set-up. We also have great confidence in LII's customer base."
