ASX ANNOUNCEMENT/MEDIA RELEASE

Cuadrilla Resources spuds Anna’s Road well

AJ Lucas is pleased to announce that Cuadrilla Resources Holdings Limited (Cuadrilla), the Company’s 43% owned associate, has spudded Anna’s Road and is currently drilling at about 1,200 feet. The well is the fourth to be drilled by Cuadrilla and is located at Westby in Lancashire.

In addition to the drilling of this well, Cuadrilla is implementing an environmental/regulatory procedure which it believes should apply to the operation of such drilling and completion activities for unconventional hydrocarbons in the UK. Cuadrilla is committed to working closely with the regulator, DECC, HSE, DEFRA and the Environmental Agency to ensure its compliance with the various regulatory requirements and to minimise any environmental impact.

Separately, Cuadrilla has submitted an application to the Environment Agency for a permit to safely dispose of its returned water. The permit application demonstrates Cuadrilla’s intent to take every precaution to ensure the safe disposal of returned waters and to comply with all relevant legislation to avoid any damage to the environment.

Lucas also notes the recent comments from representatives of the British Government to encourage exploration for unconventional hydrocarbons, in particular for shale gas, and to reduce reliance on energy imports. This includes the introduction of a “generous new tax regime” to encourage shale gas exploration. In addition, consideration is being given to various studies being undertaken to establish an appropriate regulatory regime in relation to hydraulic fracturing.

Lucas management takes great comfort from these announcements and hopes that the British Government will allow fracking to resume in due course.

As a socially responsible company, Cuadrilla has made it a key goal to demonstrate that shale gas from its Bowland and Bolney licences can be developed safely and in an environmentally responsible manner that is acceptable to all the affected communities.
