Bologna Airport continues to regain the passenger traffic that had been missed as a result of pandemic. In April, with 724,955 passengers, the gap with the pre-Covid period was furtherly reduced, reaching -9.0% on April 2019 (last "normal" year). The three-digit growth on 2021 (+678.9%), instead, is the result of the dramatic traffic losses caused by the pandemic's second wave striking Italy last spring, severely reducing traffic opportunities.
As was with the previous months, April's performance too showed two different trends, with domestic passengers on the rise even on 2019, while international traffic, though reducing the gap on 2019 also thanks to leading events such as Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and trade fair Cosmoprof, still records lower figures than the pre-Covid period.
In detail, in April 188,831 passengers were recorded on domestic flights (+17.3% on 2019 e +267.0% on 2021) and 536,124 passengers were recorded on international flights (-15.7% on 2019, +1,188.0% on 2021).
Flight movements were 5,659, a reduction of 8.7% on 2019 (but a growth of 326.5% on 2021), while air freight was 3,259 tons, an increase of 4.3% on 2019 and 5.8% on 2021.
According to April's most-popular-destination ranking, Catania, Palermo and Barcelona rank in the first three positions, followed by Madrid, Paris Charles de Gaulle, London Heathrow, Bari, Brindisi, Frankfurt and Tirana.
In the first four-month term, the cumulative figures on passenger traffic and number of flights show that in April the negative difference on 2019 was reduced as compared with March and a significant growth was recorded on 2021. Cargo is on the rise both versus 2021 and 2019.
In detail, in the first four months, 1,993,476 passengers were recorded (-27.7% on 2019 and +558.2% on 2021), 17,268 flight movements (-27.7% on 2019 and +290.1% on 2021) and 13,763 tons of transported goods (+4.2% on 2019 and +13.2% on 2021).
