After a strong recovery in the summer of 2022 compared to the pre-pandemic period and an autumn of data consolidation, in January 2023 Marconi recorded almost 600,000 passengers (590,089 to be exact), which show significant growth over the same month in 2022 (+86.4%), but represent a decline of 8% from January 2019 levels.
In detail, passengers on domestic flights reached 140,854 (+27.8% on 2022 and -3.2% on 2019), while passengers on international flights, 449,233, showed strong growth on 2022 (+117, 7%) but down (-9.4%) on 2019.
Aircraft movements during the month were 4,644, up on 2022 (+31.6%), but slowing down compared to 2019 (-13.5%). The volumes of freight are also growing: 3,221 tons, +3.1% on 2022 and +0.4% on 2019.
The favorite destinations in January 2023 were: Catania, Barcelona, Tirana, Madrid, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Palermo, Istanbul, Casablanca, Bucharest and London Heathrow.

Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, recorded in 2022 8.5 million passengers, ranking as the seventh biggest Italian airport by number of passengers (Source: Assaeroporti – Aeroporti2030). Located in the heart of the Emilian food valley and the automotive and packaging industrial districts, the airport has a catchment area of about 11 million inhabitants and around 47,000 companies, with a strong propensity to exports and internationalisation and with commercial expansion policies to Eastern Europe and Asia.
As for airport infrastructure, the airport has among its strategic objectives in the next few years an important development plan that mainly concerns the expansion of the terminal, particularly in the parts of security checks and gate area. The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
