MARCONI AIRPORT, OVER 900 THOUSAND PASSENGERS IN MAY For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, the progressive annual figure reaches the level of the pre-Covid period

Bologna Airport returned to pre-pandemic passenger levels. Symbolically marking the end of the Covid period is the progressive annual figure of May, which for the first time exceeds, albeit slightly, the corresponding value of 2019: 3,597,477 passengers, for a growth of 0.5% on January-May 2019 (growth rises to +29.0% if the figure is compared with the same period of 2022). The number of flights in the first five months of the year is still lower than in 2019: -5.0%.

The monthly figure for May was also positive, with 923,263 passengers, up 12.4% on 2019 and 16.1% on 2022. In detail, in May there were 227,149 passengers on domestic flights (+31.1% on the same month of 2019 and +11.3% on May 2022), while passengers on international flights were 696,114, up by 7.4% on 2019 and 17.8% on 2022.

Aircraft movements in May were 6,963, up by 8.7% on 2019 and 15.6% on 2022. The volumes of freight also grew, amounting to 3,653 tons, +15.1 on 2019 and +5.6% on 2022.

The most popular destinations in May were: Catania, Barcelona, Palermo, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Brindisi, Madrid, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Cagliari and Istanbul.

In the first five months of 2023, Bologna Airport recorded 27,329 total movements (- 5.0% on 2019 and +17.3% on 2022), while freight amounted to 17,402 tons (+6.2% on 2019 and +1.1% on 2022).

Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, recorded in 2022 8.5 million passengers, ranking as the seventh biggest Italian airport by number of passengers (Source: Assaeroporti – Aeroporti2030).
