BOLOGNA AIRPORT, 590,287 PASSENGERS IN FEBRUARY: +0.3% 1,294,808 passengers since the beginning of the year, a growth of 5.3%

Coronavirus effect has curbed Bologna Airport's growth: after a record 2019 (up to 10.6% passengers on 2018) and January 2020 almost reaching a two-digit increase (+9.9% on January 2019), February closed with 0.3% (590,287 total passengers), resulting from three well-performant weeks (+5.3% on the same period in 2019) followed by a sharp turnaround from Saturday, 22nd. An average passenger decrease of 25.1% was recorded in February's last eight days (as compared with the same period in 2019). In particular, traffic volumes dropped by over 40% in the last three days of February.

Flight movements increased by 3.1% (5,164), and air cargo shrank by 12.3% on 2019, totaling 2,796 tons.

February's three most popular destinations were: Madrid, (over 26 thousand passengers) Catania (23 thousand passengers) and Barcelona (almost 23 thousand passengers). The top-ten ranking also includes: Palermo, Paris CDG, Rome Fiumicino, Frankfurt, London Stansted, London Heathrow and Dubai.

In the first two months of 2020, Bologna Airport's total passengers were 1,294,808 with an increase of 5.3%, 10,765 movements (+3.7%) and 5,672 tons of air cargo (-12.7%).

As a result of the significant traffic drop mainly on international routes, some Airlines have announced flight cancellations in March in all Italian airports. Following the official information provided by Airlines up to date, Bologna Airport will mainly experience reduced frequencies which, in most cases, will not determine routes' total cancellations. The number of passengers in March will strongly be affected by load factors which may reach half the usual volumes.

AdB is steadily focusing on these days' constantly evolving situation, and expects to be faced with a period which will be difficult for the whole industry and whose duration cannot currently be estimated. In the meantime the Company, thanks to its sound position built throughout the years through a constant and profitable development, will pursue its strategic programs and infrastructural plans.

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, in 2019 was the seventh biggest Italian airport by passenger numbers, with 9.4 million passengers (Source: Assaeroporti). Located in the heart of the Emilian food valley and the automotive and packaging industrial districts, the airport has a catchment area of about 11 million inhabitants and around 47,000 companies, with a strong propensity to exports and internationalisation and with commercial expansion policies to Eastern Europe and Asia.

The presence at the airport of some of the largest airlines in Europe along with some of the leading low-cost carriers and the close link with European continental hubs make Bologna Italy's forth airport for global connectivity (Source: ICCSAI - Fact Book 2019).

As for airport infrastructure, the airport has among its strategic objectives in the next few years an important development plan that mainly concerns the expansion of the terminal, particularly in the parts of security checks and gate area. The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
