BOLOGNA AIRPORT: PASSENGER GROWTH OF 6.5% IN NOVEMBER The Airport stands out as best employer in Italy in the airport industry (ITQF survey)

November on the rise for Bologna Airport: an increase of 6.5% on the same month in 2018 was recorded with 712,935 passengers while flight movements (5,555) delivered a lower growth (+1.9%).

In detail, international passengers were 563,831 (+10.2% on 2018) and domestic passengers 149,104, a decrease of 5.3% versus November 2018. Air cargo registered a decrease of 10.9%, totaling 3,267 tons.

November's three most popular destinations were: Barcelona, with about 30 thousand passengers, Madrid (29 thousand passengers), Catania (28 thousand passengers), followed by Palermo, Rome Fiumicino, Paris CDG, London Heathrow, Frankfurt, London Stansted and Amsterdam.

From January to November 2019, almost 8.7 million passengers passed through Bologna Airport (8,689,143) delivering a yearly growth of 10.6%. FIight movements rose by 8.1% (67,271) while air cargo decreased by 6.1% (34,975 tons).

Bologna Airport has recently been reported to be best in class as regards employment in the airport industry, according to a survey conducted by a German Quality and Finance Institute (ITQF) and published on Affari & Finanza focusing on "Top Job – best employers in Italy". The final rating results from the processing of data and information collected through the social listening of the most largely-staffed companies in Italy (over 2,000 companies).

Two macro areas were investigated: corporate culture (working atmosphere, sustainability, company's values, customer centricity, welfare) and career (career opportunities, professional and career development, work incentives and retraining). Bologna Airport got the highest score, ranking first among Italian airports.

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, in 2018 was the eighth biggest Italian airport by passenger numbers, with 8.5 million passengers, of which 76,8% on international flights (Source: Assaeroporti). Located in the heart of the Emilian food valley and the automotive and packaging industrial districts, the airport has a catchment area of about 11 million inhabitants and around 47,000 companies, with a strong propensity to exports and internationalisation and with commercial expansion policies to Eastern Europe and Asia.

In 2018 114 destinations were served from Bologna: the presence at the airport of some of the largest airlines in Europe along with some of the leading low-cost carriers and the close link with European continental hubs make Bologna Italy's forth airport in for global connectivity (Source: ICCSAI - Fact Book 2017) and the first in Europe in terms of growth of connectivity in the decade from 2004 to 2014 (Source: ACI Europe Airport Connectivity Report 2004-2014).

As for airport infrastructure, the airport has among its strategic objectives in the next few years an important development plan that mainly concerns the expansion of the terminal, particularly in the parts of security checks and gate area. The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
