Noble recruits senior resources executive in preparation for start of production at Bibiani

Noble Mineral Resources (ASX: NMG) has taken another significant key step towards becoming a 150,000 ounce-a-year gold producer with the appointment of senior resources executive Peter Johnston as Chief Operating Officer.

Mr Johnston, who has held similar positions with leading companies such as Goldfields, Red Back Mining, Range River Gold and Minera, will play a leading role in the development of the Company’s Bibiani Gold Project in Ghana.

Mr Johnston, who is a qualified metallurgist with extensive project management experience in Australia, West Africa and South America, will also help drive Noble’s aggressive exploration program at Bibiani. Recent drilling has produced a host of spectacular high-grade results of up to 197gpt from around existing satellite deposits at Bibiani, highlighting the potential for a significant increase in resources. The results from the ongoing drilling program point to the possibility of these deposits being mined as one large open pit in close proximity to the processing facility.

Bibiani, which has resources of 1.98Moz, including 605,000oz as reserves, is on track to commence pre-commissioning of the 2.7mtpa processing facility in May-June, with the planned gold production scheduled to commence soon after. Production is forecast to ramp up to 150,000oz-plus a year from 2012 onwards.

Noble Managing Director Wayne Norris said Mr Johnston would bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Company as it prepared to join the ranks of substantial mid-tier gold miners in West Africa.

“We are delighted to have secured the services of someone of Peter’s calibre,” Mr Norris said. “Peter’s skills and familiarity with Ghana gold operations will be invaluable as we commission the Bibiani processing plant. With an aggressive drilling program underway, coupled with the excellent results, we look forward to adding significant ounces to our current resources and reserves.”
