New appointments
Abacus Property Group is pleased to announce that Jingmin Qian has accepted the offer to join the Abacus Board as a non-executive director in late September and Steven Sewell will join the executive team as Chief Investment Officer and Head of Strategy in early October.
Jingmin Qian
Jingmin has significant expertise in the property, infrastructure and resource sectors as well as rich experience on Asia. Jingmin is a director of Jing Meridian specialising in advising boards and senior management on investment, strategic management and cross-cultural management. She is a senior advisor to leading global and Australian organisations.
Previously she held executive roles with L.E.K. Consulting, Boral Limited and Leighton Holdings, with responsibilities covering strategy, mergers and acquisitions, capital planning, investment review and Asian expansion. During this period, Jingmin also served as a member of the business liaison program of the Reserve Bank of Australia. Prior to that, Jingmin started her career at the Ministry of Commerce in Beijing, working with AusAID and United Nations on aid projects in over twenty provinces in China.
Jingmin is a member of Macquarie University Council, a director of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of Sydney, and a director and Chair of Thought Leadership Committee of the Australia China Business Council.
Jingmin holds a Bachelor Degree of Economics from University of International Business and Economics in Beijing and an MBA from Australian Graduate School of Management in Sydney. She is a CFA Charterholder and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Jingmin will stand for election as a director at the next Annual General Meeting in November.
Steven Sewell
Steven brings extensive experience and deep commercial skills in property to the role of Chief Investment Officer and Head of Strategy. Steven will be responsible for the Group’s investment and capital allocation activities.
Steven joins Abacus from the Macquarie Group where he was Executive Director of Macquarie Asset Management and Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets. Previously he was Chief Executive Officer of Federation Centres Ltd, Charter Hall Retail REIT and Macquarie Countrywide Trust.
Steven served as Chairman of Shopping Centres Council of Australia from 2009 to 2015.
Steven holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne.
