Press release
Eiffage, through its subsidiary Eiffage Génie Civil, has just been awarded as part of an integrated joint venture with UK firms Carillion and Kier a contract for two packages of phase 1 of the future HS2 (High Speed 2) rail line, which will link London to Birmingham in 2026.
These two civil engineering packages (C2 and C3), located at the centre of the route in the Midlands, represent a total of 80 km of railway line under design and build for a total amount of almost €1.6 billion (£1.4 billion).
These two major contracts cover earthworks and bridging structures, representing a total of 23 million cubic metres of earthmoving, 14 viaducts, 86 bridges structures and more than five kilometres of green tunnels.
The consortium, which comprises Arcadis, Setec and Cowi, will take part in the design.
A few weeks after the commissioning of the Bretagne-Pays de la Loire high speed rail line between Le Mans and Rennes, Eiffage thus confirms its expertise in highspeed rail line and its status of major European player in the market for large, complex infrastructure projects. Its expertise includes technical, organisational, stakeholder management and training capabilities as well as the ability to factor in and integrate local constraints.
Eiffage is one of Europe's leading construction and concessions companies. The Group's activities are organised on the basis of the following business lines: construction, real estate and urban development, civil engineering, metal, roads, energy and concessions. Thanks to the experience of more than 63,000 employees, Eiffage generated revenues of €14 billion in 2016, of which nearly 20% outside France.
Eiffage Génie Civil is actively involved – from design through to construction – in a large number of structural projects in both France and abroad, notably in Africa. On a day-to-day basis its teams work on civil engineering structures, civil engineering for infrastructure projects, underground works, offshore and river construction, earthmoving, demolition and decontamination, foundations and structural repairs.
