Saint-Denis, November 10th, 2017 – In a company-wide meeting today in Paris, EuropaCorp CEO Marc Shmuger announced that he will be leaving the company in his executive capacity at the end of his contract on December 31, 2017. He will continue his relationship with the company as a senior advisor as well as producer of EuropaCorp's feature film "Anna," being directed by Luc Besson and distributed in many territories worldwide by Lionsgate.
Shmuger joined EuropaCorp in the beginning of 2016 for a six-month commitment, which he and the company afterwards extended multiple times. He has been based out of EuropaCorp's US office in Los Angeles.
During his tenure at EuropaCorp, Shmuger successfully bolstered the group's financial strength through overseeing the sale of non-core assets, raising funds through a significant new equity raise, restructuring the company's debt, and reducing overhead costs by one-third. Shmuger also structured a theatrical distribution deal with STX, a home entertainment deal with Lionsgate, and he assembled the financing and distribution for the film he is producing, "Anna".
Shmuger said: "From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank Luc and my amazing colleagues in Paris and Los Angeles for the opportunity I've had to lead this incredible company. Driven by Luc's vision, and through the strength of some of the best executives I've worked with in my many years in the business, I leave EuropaCorp with great friends, memories and relationships which I will always cherish."
Luc Besson added, "Marc has been a friend for over 20 years and is one of my closest advisors. He came into EuropaCorp at a crucial time for the company and brought much needed leadership, experience, industry knowledge and vision - all of which he provided to me personally and to the company in extraordinary ways for which I'll be forever grateful."
Luc Besson will assume interim CEO responsibilities on January 1, 2018.
