Eiffage, through its subsidiaries Eiffage Construction (consortium leader) and Eiffage Énergie Systèmes, recently won, in a consortium, the contract for the third and final phase of the reconstruction project at the Baumettes prison facility in Marseille for a value of just over €90 million.
Eiffage's share of the contract amounts to €87 million. The consortium includes the architects Groupe 6 and WTF/A, environmental consultants Inddigo, and design engineers WSP and CS Ingénierie.
Initiated by the APIJ (Agence publique pour l'immobilier de la Justice) on behalf of the French Ministry of Justice, this contract includes the demolition of the men's prison, plus the design, construction and fitting of a new 30,000 square-metre prison facility on the same site.
With a capacity of just over 700, this new prison facility will include five accommodation blocks and a disciplinary block, with a particular focus on comfort during summer, consolidated administration areas, a theatre, four sports pitches and multi-storey car park. The layout of the buildings has been designed to minimise its impact on the surrounding environment.
This project involves multiple areas of the Group's expertise. Eiffage Construction will be responsible for construction using BIM. Eiffage Énergie Systèmes is responsible for safety and security, highand low-voltage electrical systems, and HVAC/plumbing. Eiffage Génie Civil will demolish the existing buildings, with most of the recovered material being reused on site to reduce the impact on local residents.
The 31-month works phase will begin following a one-year design and demolition phase, with delivery scheduled for the second half of 2024. This will conclude the prison reconstruction project that began in 2013 with preparatory works, also carried out by Eiffage, and complete the integration of the different components into a single establishment.
