Press release
Eiffage, through Antwerpse Bouwwerken and Valens, two Eiffage Benelux subsidiaries, was recently awarded, in a consortium, the SNCB (Belgian national railway company) contract to transform the Gent-Sint-Pieters station in Belgium. The contract amounts to almost €100 million, with Eiffage's share worth €86 million.
The project includes the station's transformation, partial redevelopment of the ground floor and first underground level, and refurbishment of the tracks and platforms, which will be equipped with a roof connecting to the previously renovated part of the station. This new roof structure will ensure passenger comfort in all weather conditions. The installation of solar panels and integrated heat pumps add to the project's sustainability credentials.
The station will remain operational throughout the entire works period, which will require phased organisation and a construction method based on a dynamic BIM model. This will provide an overview of logistical movements, such as the removal of demolition and earthwork debris or the supply of construction and raw materials, so that the construction process can be organised to keep the works' impact to a minimum.
The project was designed by SNCB as part of the Gent-Sint-Pieters multi-year plan, which is a collaboration between SNCB, Infrabel, De Lijn, the City of Gent and the Flemish Region.

Eiffage is one of Europe's leading construction and concessions companies.
