PRESS RELEASE 10 October 2007
SWECO's engineers have been chosen to prepare two work plans for ongoing planning of Förbifart Stockholm, a highway bypass to route traffic around instead of through the city. In the assignment for the Swedish National Road Administration, worth a total of EUR 16.9 million, SWECO has been teamed with WSP Sverige and Tyréns.
"This is the biggest road project and the largest consulting procurement ever carried out for a road project of this type in Sweden. Many road investments are carried out in stages, but in this case the client has chosen to procure all consulting services at once," says Mats Påhlsson, Managing Director of SWECO VBB.
Förbifart Stockholm will link together the northern and southern parts of Stockholm Country, from Kungens Kurva to Häggvik. Most of the new bypass will be placed underground – of a total length of 21 km a full 16 will pass through tunnels. On behalf of the Swedish National Road Administration, SWECO's task is to prepare two work plans that will be used to drive the project forward.
"We are involved in a number of large-scale projects aimed at improving the road and railway network. In recent years we have been awarded infrastructure contracts for nearly 55 million euros in Stockholm alone," says Mats Påhlsson.
SWECO's work will be completed by year-end 2009. SWECO and WSP are expected to account for 40 per cent each of the assignment volume and Tyréns for 20 per cent.
