New acquisition makes SWECO largest in Lithuania

SWECO has signed an agreement to acquire the Lithuanian company Hidroprojektas with 175 employees. Through the acquisition, SWECO will become the country's largest engineering consultancy.

"In the past year we have grown from 80 to over 800 employees in Central and Eastern Europe. Now we are adding another 175 employees and doubling the number of consultants in Lithuania," says Per Johansson, Managing Director of SWECO Central and Eastern Europe.

Hidroprojektas has most of its employees based in Kaunas, Lithuania's second largest city. The company is a provider of consulting engineering services with an emphasis on water supply, hydropower and infrastructure.

"Hidroprojektas will be a valuable complement to our other operations in Lithuania, in terms of both resources and geographic coverage," adds Per Johansson.

The acquisition is subject to the Lithuanian Competition Authority's approval. The seller of Hidroprojektas is Lithuanian holding company Invalda, which manages its investments in real estate, finance, pharmacy, furniture manufacturing, roads and bridges construction and hotel management sectors.

SWECO has around 4,900 employees in ten countries and recorded annual sales of around SEK 3.9 billion in 2006. The company has projects currently underway in some 75 countries worldwide.
