PRESS RELEASE 20 November 2008

Sweco's student prize goes to climate-smart thesis project

A thesis project by Lund University student Gustav Gustavsson resulted in a guide to help industries reduce their carbon dioxide emissions. Now Gustavsson has been chosen as the winner of Sweco's Student Prize, to be awarded on 20 November at the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm.

In a thesis project titled "Don't waste energy on energy-efficiency" carried out at Schneider Electric in Malmö, Sweden, Gustav Gustavsson has created a guide full of tips to help industries become more energy-efficient.

"In the guide I give advice and show how easy it is for companies to optimise their energy usage. By actively addressing this issue, companies can contribute to a better environment at the same time that they cut costs," says Gustav Gustavsson.

The jury found Gustav's chosen choice of focus both simple and ingenious. When it comes to energy-efficiency everyone is a winner, but the challenge has been to set things in motion and show that it doesn't have to be complicated.

"Gustavsson's practical step-by-step advice goes through the process and structures it in a clear and straightforward manner," says jury chairman Andreas Gyllenhammar from Sweco.

Sweco's Student Prize is awarded to a thesis project that provides smart solutions for a better climate. The prize consists of a SEK 25,000 grant for participation in a national or international conference.
