Alfa Laval wins SEK 95 million clean technology order in the US

Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – has received an order for the unique Alfa Laval Packinox plate heat exchangers, which will be used in an IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) power plant in the US. The order value is about SEK 95 million and was booked late December 2008. Delivery is scheduled for 2009.

The Alfa Laval Packinox heat exchangers will be used in a process that cleans the synthetic fuel gas made from coal before combustion. The gas will then be used in a gas turbine for power generation. Compared with the latest conventional "clean coal" technology the IGCC process has significantly less impact on the environment with 50 percent reduction of SO2 emissions. 1

"This is a new duty for the Alfa Laval Packinox heat exchanger and we are continuously looking for new applications for this unique product," says Lars Renström, CEO and President of the Alfa Laval Group.

Did you know that Sulphur dioxide (SO2) is produced in combustion of fossil fuels? When it reaches the atmosphere it reacts with water and eventually becomes acid rain. By removing the sulphur before combustion this environmental problem is minimized.
