Leonardo e Rheinmetall: primo contratto di fornitura di veicoli corazzati per l'Esercito Italiano
Roma, 05/11/2025 – La RTI tra Leonardo e Rheinmentall, nell'ambito della Joint Venture Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles (50% Leonardo e 50% Rheinmetall AG), si è aggiudicata il primo contratto di fornitura di 21 veicoli "A2CS Combat" destinati all'Esercito Italiano. La consegna del primo veicolo è prevista entro la fine del 2025.

Laurent Sissmann, Amministratore Delegato della JV Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles, ha dichiarato: "Siamo lieti di annunciare questo primo step della sinergia industriale tra Leonardo e Rheinmetall che ci vedrà lavorare fianco a fianco per fornire mezzi all'avanguardia e in grado di operare nei moderni scenari operativi".
Leonardo e Rheinmetall forniranno 21 mezzi corrazzati cingolati per la fanteria, 5 dei quali modello Lynx KF-41 di Rheinmetall con la torretta Lance, seguiti da 16 mezzi in nuova configurazione dotati dello stesso scafo e della torretta Hitfist 30mm di Leonardo. L'accordo prevede inoltre l'aggiornamento dell'intera flotta a quest'ultima configurazione, oltre a includere altri 30 veicoli opzionali e sistemi di addestramento e simulazione per formare al meglio gli equipaggi.
Si tratta di veicoli di ultima generazione completamente digitalizzati basati sull'utilizzo delle migliori tecnologie presenti sul mercato e in grado di agire in modo interoperabile in un contesto multidominio.
La fornitura rientra nell'ambito del programma A2CS – Army Armoured Combat System, originariamente denominato AICS – Armored Infantry Combat System, che prevede l'acquisizione totale di 1050 veicoli di fanteria e che, insieme al programma Main Battle Tank, rinnoverà le linee dei mezzi pesanti dell'Esercito Italiano.

La joint venture tra Leonardo e Rheinmetall nasce con l'obiettivo di formare un nuovo leader europeo per lo sviluppo e la produzione di veicoli militari da combattimento in Europa. Rheinmetall AG e Leonardo S.p.A. saranno azionisti paritetici (50% ciascuno) della società Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles (LRMV) che ha sede legale a Roma, sede operativa a La Spezia ed è responsabile dello sviluppo industriale e della successiva commercializzazione del nuovo Main Battle Tank (MBT) e della nuova piattaforma Army Armored Combat System (A2CS).
Per la joint venture è stata concordata una ripartizione del lavoro 50:50. Il 60% delle attività, ovvero integrazione, test di omologazione, attività di consegna e supporto logistico, nonché alcune fasi della produzione e dello sviluppo, avverrà in Italia.

Leonardo and Rheinmetall: first contract to supply armoured vehicles for the Italian Army
Rome, 05/11/2025 – The temporary grouping of companies Leonardo and Rheinmentall, as part of the Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles Joint Venture (50% Leonardo and 50% Rheinmetall AG), was awarded the first supply contract for 21 vehicles "A2CS Combat" for the Italian Army. The delivery of the first vehicle is expected by the end of 2025.

Leonardo and Rheinmetall will supply 21 tracked armoured vehicles for the Italian Army, 5 of which are Rheinmetall's Lynx KF-41 with the Lance turret followed by 16 newly configured vehicles equipped with the same chassis and Leonardo's Hitfist 30mm turret. The agreement also includes upgrading the whole fleet to the latter configuration, as well as including an additional 30 optional vehicles, and training and simulation systems to better train crews. These are fully digitalized latest generation vehicles based on merger of the best technologies on the market and capable of acting interoperably in a multi-domain context.
The supply falls within the scope of the A2CS – Army Armoured Combat System programme, originally called AICS – Armoured Infantry Combat System, which involves the total acquisition of 1.050 armoured combat vehicles and which, together with the Main Battle Tank programme, will renew Italian Army's heavy vehicles fleet.

The joint venture between Leonardo and Rheinmetall has the aim of establishing a new European leader for the development and production of military combat vehicles in Europe. Rheinmetall AG and Leonardo SpA will be equal shareholders (50% each) of the new company Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles (LRMV) which has its registered office in Rome, operational headquarters in La Spezia (North of Italy) and is responsible for the industrial development and subsequent marketing of the new Main Battle Tank (MBT) and the new Army Armored Combat System (A2CS) vehicles.
