Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – has received an order for membranes and heat exchangers for Novozymes' new production plant in Nebraska, US. The order value is about SEK 50 million and delivery is scheduled for 2010.
The Alfa Laval membranes and heat exchangers will be used to concentrate enzymes for further use in production of starch-based ethanol. The facility in Nebraska will not only supply enzymes for the existing bioethanol industry, it is also designed for production of enzymes to be used in ethanol production from cellulose, a process under development. The specific enzymes are used to break down feedstock such as corn, sugar cane bagasse and wood chips – and convert the cellulose and starch into sugar.
"We have delivered a similar solution to a Novozymes production plant in China during 2008, and this order shows that our recently developed ultra filtration membranes have proven their efficiency within the enzyme industry", says Lars Renström, President and CEO of the Alfa Laval Group.
Did you know that Alfa Laval was founded in 1883 and only two years later, in 1885, the company established its first sales company in the US?
