NCC signs function contract in Norway valued at SEK 965 million

NCC Roads Norway has signed five new function contracts with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration comprising the operation and maintenance of Norwegian roads. The contracts have a combined value of about SEK 965 million

The contracts with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration entail responsibility for the operation and maintenance of European roads, national roads, county roads and pedestrian and bicycle paths. With the new contracts, NCC Roads Norway will be responsible for a total of 11 government contracts in Norway as of the autumn of 2009. NCC Roads is one of the largest players in Norway in this area, with responsibility for about 64,000 kilometers of road.

– The new contracts with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration demonstrate that we are a key player and that we are among the largest Norwegian players in operation and maintenance. For us, the challenge now primarily involves recruiting. We will have to employee new employees to staff the new contracts, says Trond Schjente, head of Road Services at NCC Roads Norway.

Two of the contracts, in Kongsberg in the municipality of Buskerud and in Østfold Nord in the municipality of Østfold, are new for NCC Roads, while the contracts in Nedre Telemark, Kristiansand and Vestfold Syd are being renewed for a further five years.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration defines the requirements for operation and maintenance, while NCC Roads as the contractor performs the assignments. The current assignments comprise plowing, snow removal and sanding, minor maintenance work on and along the roads, maintenance of green areas, maintenance of rest stops and sign maintenance.

The contracts will be registered among orders in the second quarter of 2009. They will apply from September 1, 2009 and five years onward.
