Press Release Stockholm, Sweden, May 26, 2009
ProCure Treatment Centers, Inc., (ProCure) has selected Elekta to provide workflow enhancing software and treatment planning systems for its second IBA-equipped proton therapy center, which is under construction in suburban Chicago. ProCure collaborates with radiation oncology practices and hospitals to build and operate proton therapy centers.
Supporting the entire workflow, the solutions – which include the image-enabled oncology information system (OIS), MOSAIQ®, as well as XiO® treatment planning system – will enable the facility to treat patients in a chartless, paperless environment.
In clinical use at four proton therapy facilities worldwide, MOSAIQ provides centers with a sophisticated treatment management solution that streamlines radiation therapy planning, setup, verification, delivery review and analysis.
"With MOSAIQ, Elekta brings significant proton therapy and radiation oncology expertise," says Niek Schreuder, Senior Vice President of Medical Physics and Technology at ProCure Treatment Centers. "More importantly, Elekta shares ProCure's vision of making the OIS the central hub of the entire therapy workflow."
A comprehensive treatment planning system that combines the latest tools and most robust dose calculation algorithms, XiO allows users to generate quick and accurate treatment plans. Developed more than a decade ago, XiO for protons is in clinical use at more proton facilities than any other commercial vendor. Vendorneutral, XiO is used in conjunction with IBA, Varian and Mitsubishi delivery systems.
"Because of their proven track record, ease of use and commitment to future enhancements, ProCure selected the Elekta systems for our suburban Chicago facility," adds Schreuder. "We're very pleased with the MOSAIQ and XiO systems currently installed in our Training and Development Center, as well as our soon-tobe opened Oklahoma center and we look forward to a continued relationship with Elekta."
"With a shared vision to deliver clinical advances for improved patient care, Elekta is delighted and proud to continue working with ProCure," says Stewart Pegrum, Particle Therapy Business Unit Manager for Elekta.
