NCC to construct additional stretch of new Alvik-Solna section of Tvärbanan

NCC Construction Sweden has secured an assignment to construct the third stretch of the Tvärbanan light-rail system's Alvik-Solna section, between Ankdammsgatan and Solna station. The assignment will conducted as a collaborative contract on behalf of SL. The order value is about SEK 525 million.

The 1,7-kilometer stretch that NCC will construct passes through the City of Solna. The contract comprises civil-engineering work for the expansion of the Tvärbanan light-rail system between Ankdammsgatan and Solna station. It includes landscaping, underground and structural work for the link and foundations for stations.

– When the Tvärbanan light-rail system's expansion is completed, it will vastly improve the commuting prerequisites for people who live and move about in the areas around Alvik, Sundbyberg and Solna. I am delighted that NCC can contribute to such a key expansion of the infrastructure for Stockholm residents, says Maria Zimdahl, Department Manager at NCC Construction Sverige.

In total, the Tvärbanan light-rail system will be expanded by about seven kilometers. The purpose of the system is to facilitate direct travel between densely populated suburbs in cases where this is not provided by subway or regular train links. When Tvärbanan's expansion is ready, travel between Alvik and Solna Station will take about 15 minutes. NCC previously announced that it will construct the second phase of the Tvärbanan light-rail system's Alvik-Solna section.

Work will commence as soon as an implementation contract between SL and the City of Solna has been reached and the necessary permits have become legally effective.

The order value will be registered in the third quarter of 2009.
