PRESS RELEASE 4 September 2009
Sweco's architects team with Henning Larsen Architects to win competition for Ystad Arena
The Municipality of Ystad has chosen the winner in a competition to design a total solution for the city's future sports complex – Ystad Arena. A number of Swedish and Danish architectural firms submitted proposals.
The Österportshallen sports hall in Ystad will be modernised and expanded with additional facilities to become a new sports complex – Ystad Arena. Among other things, the complex will contain a new aquatic sports centre and an ice rink.
"Through the meeting between old and new, our goal is to create a combined sporting and recreational concept that provides maximum functionality and spatial experiences both indoors and out," says Lars Gunnarsson from Sweco's office in Malmö.
The competition has been arranged by the Municipality of Ystad. The following firms were prequalified to compete: Berg Arkitektkontor and Arkitekfirmaet C.F. Möller, Entasis and Svendborg Architects together with Ramböll and Tema landskapsarkitekter, Fojab Arkitekter, Tengbom Arkitekter and Wingård Arkitektkontor.
