"Over the past 50 years Sweco has worked in many African countries to improve access to electricity in both urban and rural areas," says Eva Nygren, President of Sweco Sweden.
There is still a serious lack of electricity in many parts of Africa, a problem that is creating obstacles for commercial development and social progress.
By interconnecting the power grids around Lake Victoria it is possible to reduce the shortage and ensure a more stable electricity supply in the region. The assignment is being carried out on behalf of Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited with financing from the World Bank.
Sweco is already involved in similar assignments in countries like Botswana, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Angola and Tanzania.
Sweco is an international consulting group with combined expertise in engineering, environmental technology and architecture. Sweco has 5,100 employees and recorded annual sales of more than SEK 5.3 billion in 2009. The company has projects currently underway in some 80 countries worldwide. Sweco is listed on NASDAQ OMX Stockholm AB.
