On behalf of the City of Gothenburg's Urban Planning Office, Sweco is mapping slope stability conditions in a large number of areas in the municipality. This mapping is part of an initiative to adapt the city for future climate changes by preventing landslides and accidents.
"By identifying the risk for landslides it is possible to reduce the risk for property damage and prevent accidents that in the worst case could harm people. Recent years' reports on climate change and increased precipitation have further underlined the importance of this issue. It is therefore positive that the municipality of Gothenburg is now taking active measures," says Urban Högsta at Sweco, who is responsible for the study.
Sweco's study is part of an initiative by the City of Gothenburg to create an overall picture of the stability situation in the municipality. The aim is to ensure a high level of preparedness, for example in the event of rising water levels. The results will provide a basis for future urban planning and a platform for ongoing efforts to prevent accidents and secure the soil conditions in Gothenburg. This work is being carried out in close collaboration with the land and property owners.
Sweco's services will include studies, calculations, evaluation of data and reporting. The assignment encompasses both general stability studies throughout the municipality and more detailed studies in large sub-areas, including the Göta älv and Säveån rivers.
The assignment is expected to run for more than a year and the contract is worth over EUR 1.6 million.
