COLEXON Energy AG, today has begun construction on the world’s largest
roof-top thin-film photovoltaic system. The solar power plant will be
installed on a large livestock farm in Hassleben, Germany, with a capacity
of 4.6MWp. With this plant, COLEXON will break this record for the third
time which emphasises its position as one of the leading system integrators
for large roof-top solar power plants. The project investment is valued at
more than 17.5 million Euro.
Previous to this, COLEXON built a 1.5MWp project in Gescher, Germany, in
2006 and another 2.5MWp power plant on a logistic depot in Ramstein,
Germany in 2007. At the time of their installation, both plants ranked as
the largest of their kind using thin-film modules. The new system will also
be constructed using First Solar modules - currently, the most cost
effective thin-film technology.
'First Solar modules are more cost effective per kWh than conventional
crystalline silicon modules due to their thin-film technology and
manufacturing processes. In addition to a lower temperature coefficient,
they also generate higher energy output under diffuse solar irradiance.
Thanks to their cost effectiveness and performance advantages, First
Solar’s thin-film modules are particularly well suited for large scale
solar power plants', explains Thorsten Preugschas, CEO of COLEXON Energy
AG. First Solar modules are also covered by a collection and recycling
agreement that enables the owner to return the modules to First Solar at no
cost at the end of the module lifetime for recycling.
For the construction of the system approximately 64,000 modules are
installed on a roof-top area of 95,000 sqm. After completion, which is
scheduled by the end of 2008, the plant will generate an estimated
electrical power of 4.35 million kilowatt hours per year, which corresponds
to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of approximately 3,800 tons per
year.
COLEXON Energy is one of the leading manufacturer-independent system
integrators in the photovoltaic sector. The operative subsidiaries design
and install turnkey photovoltaic plants for institutional and private
investors in Germany and abroad. COLEXON Energy AG is listed in the Prime
Standard at the German Stock Exchange in Frankfurt.
