NCC secures order worth SEK 400 million to expand University Hospital in Linköping

NCC Construction Sweden has obtained a letter of intent from the Östergötland County Council to construct new premises for the University Hospital in Linköping. The order is worth approximately SEK 400 million. The project will be implemented as a collaborative contract by NCC and Östergötland County Council.

NCC will function as the coordinating general contractor for the new construction and refurbishment of the University Hospital in Linköping. Approximately 60,000 square meters of healthcare premises will be constructed in extensions to the east and west of the main building of the hospital.

Östergötland County Council has established stringent environmental requirements for the construction work. The building will have to satisfy the requirements for an Environmentally Classified Building, Class Gold. The energy requirement for operating the building has to be lower than 50 kWh per square meter.

"We will be focusing on lifecycle costs for most of the systems and products incorporated in the building," says Stefan Fredriksson, Business Manager at NCC Construction Southern Region.

The project will be conducted in the form of a collaboration contract, designated a partnering project at NCC. Partnering is a structured form of cooperation applied in the construction industry, whereby the property developer, consultants and contractors jointly solve a construction task, based on transparent and trustworthy cooperation in which the professional skills of all parties complement each other throughout the project.

Approximately 40 people will be engaged in the project, which is scheduled to start in June 2011. The aim is that the first hospital operation will relocate there in early 2015. The project will be registered among orders during the second quarter of 2011.
