Successful completion of Sparkle Power testing programme

Quadrise plc (AIM: QED), the technology company focused on the decarbonisation of shipping and heavy industry through deployment of low emission fuels and biofuels, is pleased to announce the successful completion of proof-of-concept and emissions testing programmes for its MSAR® and bioMSAR™ fuels at the Sparkle Power SA ("Sparkle") plant in El Giral, Panama.

These trials mark the first successful application of MSAR® and bioMSAR™ on Everllence (formerly MAN Energy Solutions) 4-stroke engines, expanding the commercial potential of these fuels across additional engine types in energy-intensive sectors seeking cost-effective decarbonisation solutions.

Testing on MSAR® and bioMSAR™ fuels was conducted over a 24 hour period on an Everllence 18V32/40 8MW engine. A subsequent shorter run was completed on a Everllence 9L28/32 4MW engine. T he trials were conducted by experts from Quadrise and Sparkle, and supported by independent specialists in external engine performance, emissions and fuel testing.

The key success criteria of the main trial were met as follows:

·    Engine efficiency was improved, consistent with results on Wärtsilä diesel engines.

·    NOx emissions were reduced by 25% with bioMSAR and 32% with MSAR®.

·    Particulate matter emissions were reduced by 20% using both fuels.

The Sparkle trials validated the expected performance of MSAR® and bioMSAR™ for commercial deployment and confirmed the fuel injection system modifications required to achieve maximum load. The parties are now jointly planning the next steps towards confirming commercial supply arrangements for Sparkle and fuel permitting in Panama.
