Important event to report – incident in the electricity transmission network in the western part of the country

The National Power Grid Company Transelectrica SA announces that, following the extreme weather phenomena recorded yesterday afternoon, July 8, 2025, in the western part of the country, manifested by violent storms and gusts of wind with speeds between 90 and 120 km/h (code red), a portion of the 220 kV Resita-Timisoara Double Circuit Overhead Power Line (LEA) was significantly affected, several poles being damaged, in the area of Timiș County. At the same time, the severe weather conditions of storms and strong wind (code red) recently manifested in the western and north-western areas of the country also affected the 400 kV Roșiori – Gădălin Overhead Power Line, where a pole on the LEA route was damaged.

The incident that affected the 220 kV Resita - Timișoara OHL did not generate interruptions in the electricity supply to consumers, however, it temporarily affects the complete availability of the electricity transmission network (RET) in the western part of the country.

The intervention teams were mobilized immediately after the event and are in the field to assess the damage and establish the technical measures necessary for remediation, in this phase all the technical entities with responsibilities within Transelectrica and the SMART SA subsidiary being involved.

The National Electricity System (SEN) is currently operating safely, being permanently monitored by the National Energy Dispatcher.

Permanent cooperation with the competent authorities and the local distribution operator shall be established in the management of the situation.
