Press Release For Immediate Distribution

SinterCast partner Tupy receives high-volume CGI order for commercial vehicles in North America

  • SinterCast-CGI series production of new 13 litre commercial vehicle engine
  • North American announcement complements recent order for Brazilian market
  • Production at Tupy Ramos Arizpe foundry in Mexico; deliveries to begin in 2027

[Stockholm, 9 June 2025] – Tupy S.A., a longstanding SinterCast licensee and global leader for the development and production of complex cast iron components, has been awarded a contract to supply Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) cylinder blocks for a new 13-litre commercial vehicle engine platform in North America. The cylinder blocks will be produced in CGI using the SinterCast process control technology at the Tupy foundry in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. Foundry production is expected to begin during late-2026 with OEM deliveries scheduled for 2027.

At mature volume, the program is expected to generate annual revenue of approximately BRL 200 million (approximately SEK 345 million) for Tupy. The North American order complements an order that Tupy announced on 27 March 2025 for the production of a CGI cylinder block for the undisclosed OEM in Brazil. Together, the two orders correspond to more than 300,000 Engine Equivalents per year and provide for an initial production horizon of up to ten years. The local sourcing in Brazil and Mexico replaces the current importation of cylinder blocks from the OEM's foundry in Europe.

"The Tupy announcement further reinforces the momentum toward Compacted Graphite Iron in modern, state-of-the-art commercial vehicle engines. It also reinforces the strong SinterCast growth outlook, contributing to increasing our current volume from approximately 3.3 million Engine Equivalents toward the five million and six million Engine Equivalent milestones" said Dr Steve Dawson, President & CEO of SinterCast. "The order also validates my proclamation at the 20 May 2025 Annual General Meeting that all commercial vehicle OEMs will adopt Compacted Graphite Iron before the end of this decade".
