The following is a Company Announcement issued by Bank of Valletta p.l.c. pursuant to the Capital Markets Rules issued by the Malta Financial Services Authority:
Reference is made to Company Announcement 481 issued on 31 May 2024 whereby Bank of Valletta plc (the 'Bank') informed the market that Dr Jonathan Spiteri was appointed as Non-Executive Director of the Bank at its Annual General Meeting held on 31 May 2024. Dr Spiteri's appointment was subject to regulatory approval.
The Bank hereby announces that regulatory approval has now been received for the appointment of Dr Jonathan Spiteri as Director of the Bank.
Dr Jonathan Spiteri is a Senior Lecturer within the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy at the University of Malta. A PhD graduate in Economics from the University of Edinburgh, Dr Spiteri's research interests include sustainability, public health, macroeconomics and behavioural science, and his research has been published in several leading peer-reviewed journals and books. He has also spearheaded the development of ESG teaching in Malta, both as part of existing university degrees as well as through the launch of a universityaccredited course for industry professionals through the Institute of Financial Services (IFS).
Beyond academia, Dr Spiteri's consultancy experience spans more than 13 years, predominantly focusing on ESG issues and macroeconomic policy for both public and private sector entities alike, across various sectors including aerospace, textiles, hospitality and the automotive industry. He has been appointed as an expert by the European Economic and Social Committee in the drafting of several opinions covering topics such as green bonds, sustainable growth and the Single Market, and is currently a member of the Maltese Government's Scientific Advisory Committee for the Environment.
Dr Spiteri is a co-opted member of the European Chemicals Agency's Committee for Socio-Economic Analysis, primarily in the evaluation of applications for authorisation submitted by European businesses for the use of substances of very high concern (SVHC) as defined under the REACH regulation.
There are no matters concerning Dr Jonathan Spiteri that require disclosure under the Capital Markets Rules.
