VAKA is a co-production between Skybound Entertainment, Amazon MGM Studios, Unlimited Stories, and Sagafilm ehf

COPENHAGEN – March 15th 2024 - 5th Planet Games A/S (OAX: 5PG); 5th Planet Games the video game financier behind hit games like Escape Academy, WrestleQuest, and Invincible Presents: Atom Eve, is pleased to announce its interest in VAKA, a co-production between Skybound Entertainment, Amazon MGM Studios, Unlimited Stories, Sagafilm ehf, the entity in which 5th Planet Games is a significant shareholder as of August 2023. The series was announced today in Prime Video Nordics’ upcoming television slate.

In a first-of-its kind agreement, Skybound will retain worldwide distribution rights for the Amazon Original and will control the global commissioning structure, marking a significant milestone for both Skybound and 5th Planet Games, as part of the Skybound portfolio.

It not only cements 5th Planet Games’ expanding entertainment influence across Europe, but it is also a testament to our ability to identify diversified opportunities for our 5PG investors and continue a story of growth,” said Mark Stanger, CEO of 5th Planet Games.

Created by Brynja Bjork, who also serves as Head Writer, with additional episodes written by Pauline Wolff, and directed by Henrik Georgsson, VAKA is a dystopian thriller starring Aliette Opheim and Jonas Karlsson. Set in Stockholm, the series follows the spread of a deadly insomnia epidemic. A disgraced minister must balance addressing the crisis and caring for his son, while an ambulance nurse goes to great lengths to save her lover. Meanwhile, a teenage girl protects a neighbor's son after his family succumbs to the epidemic. As these stories intertwine, panic grips Stockholm, trapping its inhabitants in a waking nightmare.  

Co-Produced by Skybound Entertainment, Amazon MGM Studios, Unlimited Stories, and Sagafilm ehf, with financial support from the Icelandic Rebate Incentive, the series is set to begin production in March 2024.
