Eiffage wins in consortium the contract for the construction of the new Formula 1 urban circuit in Madrid, Spain, in a deal worth €83.2 million

Eiffage, through its subsidiary Eiffage Construcción, in a consortium with Acciona, has been awarded the contract to design and build the new Madring Formula 1 urban circuit in Madrid, Spain. The contract is worth a total €83.2 million (Eiffage share €33.3 million).

The contract includes the complete provision of temporary infrastructure, including the construction, assembly and dismantling phases as well as the restoration of public roads and utilities after each race meeting, along with the creation of new roads and facilities catering specifically to sports events. This IFEMA Madrid-sponsored project is located to the northeast of the capital.

In order to fulfil the project's environmental ambitions, the consortium plans to reuse around 700,000 m³ of the total volume of soil from the earthworks – 60% for the worksite and 40% to be recycled at a later date elsewhere.

The many initiatives aimed at reducing the project's environmental footprint include:

• Using HCO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) as fuel for construction machinery, to reduce the site's CO² emissions by replacing fossil fuels.
• Prioritising the application of photocatalytic road surfaces to the asphalt to reduce polluting gas emissions from combustion engines.
• Implementation of a sustainable urban drainage system to promote rainwater infiltration and the replenishment of water tables.
• Transplantation of 583 trees.
• Installation of 4,259 m² of mobile noise-reduction barriers in sensitive areas, including near the Avenida de Dublín and the Valdebebas district.

Works will start in April 2026 and will be completed in time for the Spanish Grand Prix in summer 2026.

Eiffage Construcción has solid experience in the construction of sports facilities, having for example resurfaced the Jerez circuit for the 2009 MotoGP World Championship event and laid the track at Spain's third-largest circuit in Carmona, Andalusia.
