Europris ASA's science-based emissions reduction targets have been approved

Europris ASA's science-based emissions reduction targets have been approved

Europris is pleased to announce that its science-based targets for achieving net

-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050 have been approved

by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Along with the approval of the

overall net-zero target, near-term and long-term targets for GHG and FLAG

emissions have been validated and approved by SBTi.

In December 2022, Europris committed to implement emissions reduction targets in

line with SBTi, in own operations and throughout the value chain. The approval

of the targets is an important step in line with the group's overall ambition

and work to provide affordable yet sustainable products for everyone. The

approach of integrating sustainability into sourcing practices is crucial in the

matter, and the group actively works to prioritise products with reduced

emissions and sustainable resource use. An important next step is to develop a

transition plan in line with the approved science-based targets:

Overall Net-Zero Target:

· Europris commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value

chain by 2050.

Near-Term Targets:

· Europris commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42.2 per

cent by 2030 from a 2021 base year.

· Europris commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 25 per cent by

2030 from a 2021 base year.

· Europris further commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from use

of sold products from sold fossil fuels 42 per cent within the same timeframe.

· Europris commits to reduce emissions from agriculture, forestry, and land

-use 30.3 per cent by 2030 from a 2021 base year.

Long-Term Targets:

· Europris commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90 per cent

by 2050 from a 2021 base year.

· Europris commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90 per cent by

2050 from a 2021 base year.

· Europris further commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from use

of sold products from sold fossil fuels 90 per cent within the same timeframe.

· Europris commits to reduce emissions from agriculture, forestry, and land

-use 72 per cent by 2050 from a 2021 base year.

"The approval of our climate targets by the Science Based Targets initiative is

an important milestone in the group's journey to make affordable, sustainable

products available to everyone. This recognition underlines our commitment to

transparency and ensures that our actions are based on solid knowledge and facts

in how we are addressing climate change," says CEO Espen Eldal.

Efforts are already well underway across several key areas, including improved

energy efficiency in own operations, reduced emissions from transport and

working with selected suppliers on transitioning to lower-carbon materials and

processes. These initiatives amongst others will be further explored in the

comprehensive climate transition plan that is under development.

About Science Based Targets initiative

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action

organisation that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play

their part in combating the climate crisis. SBTi develops standards, tools and

guidance which allow companies to set greenhouse gas emissions reductions

targets in line with what is needed to keep global heating below catastrophic

levels and reach net-zero by 2050 at latest. The SBTi is incorporated as a

charity, with a subsidiary which will host the target validation services.

SBTi's partners are CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business

Coalition, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for

Nature (WWF) sciencebasedtargets.org.
