The "SOCIETE ANONYME ADMIE (IPTO) HOLDING", with the distinctive title "ADMIE (IPTO) HOLDING S.A." ( or the "Company"), informs investors that the affiliate, IPTO S.A., and Terna, the Italian national grid operator, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Rome during the Italy-Greece Intergovernmental Summit. The MoU sets out the key terms and conditions for the planning and development of a new electrical interconnection between the two countries.
The new high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnection between Italy and Greece is a project of strategic importance that will support existing infrastructure and the future development of the networks. Additionally, it will contribute to the achievement of decarbonization targets, while strengthening both countries' roles as energy hubs in the Mediterranean region.
The new submarine power link will complement the existing 500 MW link , which has been operational since 2002.
The project will have a transmission capacity of 1,000 MW and a total length of approximately 300 km. The subsea cable will extend over approximately 240 km, with a maximum installation depth of 1,000 meters. Finally, IPTO and Terna are expected to invest approximately €1.9 billion in the project.
GRITA 2 has already been included in the European Transmission System Operators' Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) 2024 and has been jointly proposed for inclusion in the second list of Projects of Common and Mutual Interest (PCI/PMI).
