Luc Bertrand graduated in 1974 as a commercial engineer (KU Leuven). He began his career at as Vice-President and Regional Sales Manager, Northern Europe at Bankers Trust. He has been with Ackermans & van Haaren as a director since 1985, joining as financial director in 1986 and serving as chairman of the executive committee from 1990 to 2016. He is currently chairman of the board of directors of SIPEF. His other positions include chairman of the board of directors of CFE, DEME, JM Finn and director of Delen Private Bank and Verdant Bioscience. Luc has broad expertise in corporate governance and has served on various audit and risk committees, being well-versed in risk management and internal control systems. Furthermore, he is a founding member of Guberna, a Belgian institute fostering good governance. He is also chairman of the Duve Institute and Middelheim Promoters and a member of several other boards of directors of non-profit associations and public institutions. He has been a director of SIPEF since 1996.
