Press Release
The 182 km-long Temuco – Rio Bueno motorway is part of Ruta 5, Chile's backbone, connecting the largest cities in the south of Chile.
More than €700 million will be invested in increasing capacity, while improving safety and traffic management and rolling out cutting-edge electronic systems for users.
Mundys's Chief Asset Management Officer, Elisabetta De Bernardi, noted that "this transaction comes just a few days after the acquisition of a majority stake in the A63 in France and confirms that Mundys is successfully pursuing its strategy of acquiring new highways in several countries around the world".
Rome - March 10, 2025 - Mundys, the leading global infrastructure group, will manage Ruta 5 Temuco – Rio Bueno in Chile through its subsidiary in the country, Grupo Costanera, jointly owned with CPPIB. Grupo Costanera submitted the most competitive bid in the tender process run by the Chilean Ministry of Public Works (MOP). This marks the second successful bid by the Mundys Group in Chile in less than a year, following the award of the Santiago-Los Vilos concession in August 2024 through the Vias Chile platform (established by Abertis). The awarded concession has a useful life of up to 43 years. As a result of this award, the Mundys Group's Chilean motorway network now exceeds 1,100 km, generating EBITDA of almost €1bn.

The 182 km-long Ruta 5 Temuco – Rio Bueno motorway is part of Ruta 5, Chile's backbone, connecting the areas of Temuco and Valdivia and serving also as a link to Osorno and Puerto Montt further to the south. It is the main intercity motorway, with limited alternative routes, connecting southern Chile with Santiago. The motorway supports economic activity in the area (forestry, fishing, agriculture, livestock farming) as well as tourism in the south of Chile, one of the country's best known tourist destinations.
The motorway also improves connectivity between the La Araucanía, Los Rios and Los Lagos regions, which together host more than 10% of the country's total population. This marks Grupo Costanera's first milestone in the south of the country, where Mundys is already present after acquiring the adjacent Ruta 5 Rio Bueno – Puerto Montt concession many years ago.
Grupo Costanera will take over operation of the motorway in April 2026 and will invest in excess of €700 million over an estimated period of 7 years. This investment will fund increased capacity, improved safety and traffic management. These improvements will be delivered thanks to Grupo Costanera's proven experience in toll road development and operation.
The concession has been awarded for a period of up to 43 years and will, in any event, expire when the value of cumulative revenue matches the amount stipulated in the concession agreement.
"This transaction comes just a few days after the acquisition of a majority stake in the A63 motorway in France, through our asset company Abertis, and confirms that Mundys is successfully pursuing its strategy of acquiring new infrastructure networks in several countries around the world. We are honoured to further consolidate our presence in Chile, one of the most important countries in Mundys's portfolio, given the high quality of its legal and regulatory system. Through our asset companies, we will continue our commitment to developing the toll road system and providing efficient services to the Chilean community," said Elisabetta De Bernardi, Mundys's Chief Asset Management Officer.
Grupo Costanera's CEO, Diego Savino, said: "This successful tender not only represents a new challenge for Grupo Costanera but also an opportunity to continue to support Chile's development. We will use our extensive know-how in operation and construction to further improve this strategic asset forming part of Chile's backbone highway, Route 5. It will also allow us to redeploy and strengthen our presence in the country through intercity concessions, confirming our interest in Chile's vast PPP pipeline."
Mundys is a world leading group in the infrastructure sector, with subsidiaries managing toll road concessions in 11 countries, 5 airports in France and Italy and providing mobility solutions in more than 600
cities around the globe. In Chile the group is present through the two platforms, Grupo Costanera and ViasChile (operated by Abertis), being the largest toll road operator in the country.
