Clarkson PLC

("Clarksons" or "the Company")

Directorate Change

The Board of Clarkson PLC today announces with great sadness that, following a long illness, James Hughes-Hallett CMG, independent Non-Executive Director and former Chair of the Company, passed away on Saturday 12th October 2019.

James joined the Board in August 2014 and served as Chair from January 2015 until March 2018 when, due to illness, he relinquished this role but continued his duties as a Non-Executive Director and member of the Audit, Nomination and Remuneration Committees.

James' executive career spanned 40 years with the conglomerate Swire Group, serving as Group Chairman in London for his last ten years. Prior to that, he served as Chairman of Swire Pacific Limited and Cathay Pacific Airways Limited. He also served as Managing Director and Chairman of the China Navigation Company and Chairman of Swire Pacific Offshore, United States Cold Storage Inc., and the Hong Kong Shipowners Association. His extensive expertise in maritime and global trade was invaluable to Clarksons' strategy, and during his chairmanship he oversaw many developments including completion of the acquisition of RS Platou and the integration of the businesses.

Bill Thomas, Chair, commented, "The Board will remember James for his great leadership and passion. Even whilst suffering from his illness, James remained dedicated to Clarksons, continuing to serve on the Board as a Non-Executive Director and Committee member, and we remain indebted for the invaluable guidance he provided."

Andi Case, Chief Executive Officer, added, "James leaves behind a great legacy in our Company. His stewardship and advice to me personally was a great support, and I feel extremely privileged to have acted as Chief Executive Officer during his tenure. He will be greatly missed by all at Clarksons, as well as throughout the wider shipping industry. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time."
