Statement on Current Trading in Response to Recent Price Activity and Movements of the Company's Shares

Gabelli Merger Plus+ Trust plc ("the Company") believes, to the best of its knowledge, that the recent price activity and movements of the Company's shares are the result of near term portfolio rebalancing by select shareholders; low August stock market volumes generally; and, lack of liquidity preventing full market price discovery.

The Investment Manager reemphasises to its shareholders that there has been no material event or change to its investment programme and affirms that its investment objectives of non-market correlated total returns delivering a 5% annual dividend distribution, coupled with capital growth, achieved through an active announced merger investment program remain intact and the fundamentals of the portfolio remain sound.

The Company notifies investors it is entering its closed period, restricting trading by insiders, directors, and the Company itself under the authorization of its buyback programme.  The closed period is expected to end on or around 15th September, final details of which will follow in a subsequent announcement subject to standard UK market practice and regulations.
