TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

SSE plc (the "Company") announces that on 17 July 2017 it purchased for cancellation a total of 20,854  Ordinary Shares of nominal value £0.50 each in the capital of the Company.  The purchases were carried out on behalf of the Company by Morgan Stanley & Co. International plc, who have been engaged to manage part of the Company's capital return programme.

Lowest Price Per Share	1,474.00 pence
Highest Price Per Share	1,475.00  pence

These share purchases form part of the Company's existing share buy-back programme, details of which were announced on 11 November 2016.  In respect of the share buy-back programme, which will operate until not later than 31 December 2017, any acquisitions will be effected within certain pre-set parameters, and in accordance with the Company's general authority to repurchase shares and Chapter 12 of the UK Listing Rules.

In accordance with Article 5(1)(b) of Regulation (EU) No 596/2014 (the Market Abuse Regulation), a schedule of individual trades executed on behalf of the Company by Morgan Stanley & Co. International plc is set out below:
